This site has been created as a center for information and pictures of Louis Scott, a popular singer, actor and model who lives in Thailand.
I have just returned from Thailand where I heard Louis for the first time. Within the first minute of hearing track number one on his latest album (which, since I do not read Thai language, I am assuming is called something like "Yah Bot Phom"), I knew this was something special indeed. Literally jumping off the CD, its driving beat, hook-laden melody, and exciting, aggressive vocal was awesome.
When it was explained to me that "Ya Thut Phom" means both something like "don't leave me" (literally: "don't cut me off") and also the very cheeky "don't cut my hair," I was further convinced that this song could be an international hit. Like the Ricky Martin hit "La Vida Loco," this song is an example of a fun, playful image which transcends language boundaries.
As the album progressed his range more and more impressed me for a young man of only 20. There are many other great songs on this record, like the second cut (which begins with the English phrase "Lesson One" and is called "Arng Wang Lism." I don't know what that means but, hopefully, Angie at the Joni & Louis site listed below will be translating it soon like she did for "Ya Thutt Phom."). It is a great pop ballad with a very soulful feel and heartfelt vocal. There are several other great ballads, such as "Tum Dai Mai," "Roo Kae Song Kone," "Ruk Chun Si" and "Mai Thong Bok."
There are also some very hot dance numbers. "Happy Sood-Sood" tells the story of a breakup, where his ex-girlfriend keeps asking him "Happy You? Happy You?" and he's all "Oie! Yeah, I'm OK. It's cool. I'm happy sood-sood." The last song is called "SEXY," where the background singers taunt him with cries of "very sexy," while he replies something that sounds like "Mai me shai" or "mai chi chun" over and over (which I think means "no, not me -- you got the wrong guy") Hello? I think many girls would disagree (maybe some guys too?)
That this multi-talented artist can sing with such an aching cry in his voice and then turn around and belt out the edgy, uptempo numbers with the passion and conviction of a seasoned rock veteran makes him rare indeed.
It was only after listening to the entire disc that I picked up the album cover and remembered what had caught my eye in the first place: Louis' look! It's perfect. Obviously, he's handsome, but it's more than that. Boyish yet masculine, vulnerable yet cocky, he can rock out or be soft and romantic, so he has a little something for all tastes.
I was so impressed that I wanted to find out where Louis' music was being played. I began by watching MTV Asia, which was very disappointing. As might be expected, Americans dominate the channel. Even within the Asian-targeted programming that I saw, however, there wasn't that much Thai music.
But then, unexpectedly in the middle of one night, I happened to see a music program on Thai TV featuring many of the RS stars, including Louis and JR-Voy. In any case, I was quite pleased to see Louis display just as much poise and approachability as I expected from him.
Then my friends and I hit the Bangkok clubs to see where and to what extent we would hear Louis. Everyone I talked to seemed to know him. I saw his soda pop print ads displayed around Bangkok and Hua Hin. I heard of his successful appearances as such places as MBK in Bangkok.
The album features elements of hardcore dance music, alternative rock and romantic pop ballads in the style of the current music industry megatrend: boy bands. This sounds to my ears like a slam-dunk, surefire hit. His sound kind of reminds me of Prince: synthesizer driven music with an edge, but also a sweetness.
I am convinced that Louis could be a hugely popular international superstar. That is why I want to help him by telling as many people about him as possible. Will you help me?
